Pixel Island is open to all who wish to join. The lab is a place for people with interests in computer graphics and visualization to learn and develop techniques across many areas. If you don't know anything about computer graphics, that is okay, you will learn. The lab has many toys to play with and we can find something for you to do. Look over the existing projects to see if something ineterests you and visit with Dr. King to talk about what projects you might want to work on. The lab is open to both undergradautes and graduates We also could use creative people to help balance the overly technical side of the lab. Artistic help is always useful.

There are several options for learning computer graphics while receiving credit. The department offers COSC 4328 - Computer Graphics which is taught in Fall semesters. COSC 4328 is open to both undergrads and graduate students for credit. We will also be offering a Computer Graphics II course starting in Spring 2006, with plans to offer it every Spring. Graphics II will expand upon the introductory course and will be a graduate level course. As a graduate level course it is also open to undergraduates about to graduate (however if you take it as an undergraduate and later become a grad student you will not get grad credit for it). As well, directed independant studies are also an option. And for graduate students, we have some wonderful graduate projects for you.

Undergrads

As an undergrad you probably feel that you are either not prepared or not capable of doing research, or you have never even thought about doing research. But research is not only withing your capabilities, it will also increase them. Research can be extremely challenging and satisfying. It is in fact why you should be at a university, to increase knowledge. Joining a research program will allow you to greatly improve you university experience. Remember the other reason you are here, to get a job. A graduate that shows they did something different in school, such as developed a new tecnhique or wrote a technical paper will stand out. Also, if you think you want to go to grad school, having undergrad research experience is not only helpful, it is sometime required. And if you aren't thinking of grad school, this will give you a taste of what it is like, and you may like it.

Funding Opportunities

Undergraduate Students

There are several undergrad research fellowships available for the Fall and Spring. These fellowships pay $1000 per semester. You are expected to work about 125 hours sometime during the semester. If you are interested see Dr. King ASAP.

Graduate Students

Currently there are no funds in search of a body. This can change quickly. If you want to join the lab, please do. When funding becomes available, those that have already shown an interest in the lab and its projects will have the advantage over those that have not.
