Integers

 The set of integers contains the set of whole numbers and their opposites. This means BOTH the positive numbers and negative numbers. This does NOT include fractions!
  • Negative numbers were not used by the Egyptians, Babylonians, or Greeks
  • Chinese began using negative numbers about 200 BC, indicating them with red ink
  • Hindus placed a dot over the number to indicate it was negative
  • An Italian mathematician of 1545 AD is credited for how we use negative numbers today
