Putting the face and place values together gives us the total value a number represents. If we dissect a number into its face and place values, this is called the expanded form of a number. For instance, 5,602 = (5 x 1000) + (6 x 100) + (0 x 10) + (2 x 1) This is called the expanded form, and describes the number as the sum of each face value multiplied by each place value.
