Division by Zero

Can we really divide by zero? Let's check a couple of the division models to see what happens:

8 ÷ 0 =

Repeated subtraction model -- subtract zero from 8 over and over until it is gone.

Partition model -- share 8 Pokemon cards with your friends by giving them each zero until all the cards are distributed.

Measure model -- cut off zero inches from an 8-inch ribbon. How many pieces do you have?

Number line model -- Mark 8 on the number line. Draw as many zero-length bars as you can until they reach 8.
