Texas Bays and Estuaries is an annual meeting convened each year to share information, research, results, and possible areas for future study regarding the coastal region of the Gulf of Mexico. The 2008 meeting was hosted by the University of Texas Marine Science Institute (UTMSI) in nearby Port Aransas on April 17-18.

Froeschke is a Coastal and Marine System Science doctoral student. His presentation was gathered from the results of a portion of his dissertation research at A&M-Corpus Christi under mentor Dr. Greg Stunz and Dr. Paul Montagna.

Says Froeschke, “My talk was titled ‘The effect of hypoxia on habitat selection of juvenile estuarine fishes’, and it focuses on the potential implication of hypoxia to fish population dynamics of estuarine fishes.” Froeschke received first place in the student competition, a $200 award. He also garnered $500 toward travel to a future Estuarine Research Federation meeting in New Orleans.

“The Science & Technology Faculty at A&M-Corpus Christi has been an invaluable resource in shaping my research into an integrative perspective using the tools of system science to answer important ecological questions.”
