Public Outreach & Education

The Center for Coastal Studies is involved in various public outreach and education projects as well as works in conjunction with several institutions/agencies. With our mission being to preserve and conserve our natural resources through education, we reach out to the public through:


The Center for Coastal Studies also creates, publishes, and displays educational materials in the forms of:

  • Educational Signs for parks, reserves, and rookery islands

  • Brochures and pamphlets

  • Websites

Additional public outreach and education activities include:

  • Refugio County Earth Sciences Field Day for Elementary and Middle school students

  • Participation in Earth Day

  • Seminars/presentations at various elementary, intermediate, and high schools in the surrounding area about marine science and conservation
