Adopt-A-Wetland Program

The premier program of the Center for Coastal Studies Education Program (CCSEP), the Adopt-A-Wetland Program (AAWP) provides school and community groups with opportunities to get involved and learn about wetlands through hands on wetland activities. After learning about wetland function and values, participants are taught various wetland monitoring techniques that utilize science, math, and reading skills. Special attention is given to show how monitoring can be implemented into the classroom. The Aquatic WILD, Project WET, and CCSEP curriculum are heavily integrated in to the program. Upon completion, participants are provided with basic monitoring equipment and encouraged to "adopt" a local wetland to monitor for a period of time. Parameters such as water quality, species diversity, and habitat quality are explored. One or two day workshops can be arranged at no cost.
