RAPID: Measuring the response of stream communities to a punctuated disturbance across a semi-arid to sub-humid gradient

Dr.’s Christopher Patrick, Derek Hogan, and Brandi Reese from the Department of Life Sciences at TAMUCC are comparing the immediate and longer term responses of microbial, invertebrate, and fish communities to Hurricane Harvey along the natural climate gradient in South Texas.  The team will be conducting high frequency sampling in streams along the climate gradient and measuring changes in water chemistry, physical habitat, ecosystem processes, organism abundance, and community composition.  The project will help us understand how climate mediates ecosystem resilience to extreme events.
